TITLE: TELECOMMUNICATOR/DISPATCHER

DEPARTMENT: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY

LOCATION: SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY 911 CENTER

REPORTS TO: DEPUTY DIRECTOR, TRAINING AND QA

SUPERVISES: NONE

RATE: $18.97/HOUR, 12 HOUR SHIFTS

POSITION STATUS: UNION ELIGIBLE, FULL-TIME

GENERAL:

The Dispatcher, under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director, Training and QA, will be responsible to fulfill all of the responsibilities of a Telecommunicator/Dispatcher as outlined by the county and all applicable certifying agencies.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade

Work Hours Required/Availability

• This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Must be available for call-in 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
• 12-hour shifts

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• The ability to work in environment that can at sometimes be stressful.
• The ability to accurately follow written procedures.
• The ability to work well with staff, members of the public, and emergency services.
• Must be able to prioritize work effectively.
• Knowledge of 911 Call Taking/Dispatching related to three primary emergency services (fire, EMS, & police.).
• Ability to communicate and express communication effectively, both orally and in writing.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform all of the duties as a telecommunicator including call taking and dispatching.
• Obtain and maintain all required certifications as listed below.
• Understand and follow all Susquehanna County 911 Communication Center Standard Operating Procedures
• Employees will be required to do other duties as assigned.

Certifications:

The Employee will be required to maintain certification of a Level 1 Telecommunicator:

• Pennsylvania Call Taker/Dispatcher
• APCO PST1 Level One
• Susquehanna County Call Taker/Dispatcher
• NCIC CLEAN / JNET Certification
• Emergency Medical Dispatch including CPR
• Hazmat R&I, ICS 100, and NIMS 700
• Additional Certifications as required.

Physical Requirements:

The incumbent must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position in a normal office environment which may involve long periods of sitting.

Special Requirements:

• The incumbent must pass the Susquehanna County Background Check with no record of any criminal convictions.
• The incumbent must meet and comply with Susquehanna County’s Employment Policies.
• The incumbent must successfully complete the Susquehanna County Telecommunicator Training Program.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality with all aspects of the position.
